This is such a great program, where kids make lifetime memories.

WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — Summer learning is in full swing in Westhampton Beach, with more than 200 students spending their summer mornings learning and playing at the district’s summer recreation program, which runs through July.

During the four-week program, held at Westhampton Beach Elementary School, students in grades K to 8, participate in a wide variety of activities, including sports, crafts, art, computers and science. Additionally, students are treated to special programs provided by local businesses.

Cindy Parry, director of the summer recreation program, said this summer a number of community members have also stepped up to make the program extra special.

One alumni of the district, Jordan Bryant, is providing sports clinics while several Girl Scouts, working on their Silver Award, are running special activities based on camp themes. Several eighth-grade students are also serving as camp counselors, a release said.

The summer recreation program additionally provides an opportunity for incoming kindergartners to get acquainted with their new school and for older students to work on their academics through a program, called the Academy. The Academy provides academic support to students through a teacher recommendation process. The program additionally includes extended learning opportunities for special education students.
