The Dish: Good Deal on Lobster Salad Sandwich
Quaint farm stand/general store/lunch has wide selection.
Farm stand/lunch spot makes quality lobster salad.
The Place: Green Door Cafe, 31 Shinnecock Road, Hampton Bays, 631-728-8811.
The Dish: The Maine Event, lobster salad sandwich with baby spinach thin sliced red onion on a toasted ciabatta roll, $13.50. This may be the best lobster salad sandwich deal in the area. It has a good amount of lobster in the salad, not super big knuckles, but claws were evident, just the right amount of small dices of celery and a hint of tarragon. The roll, however, must be rethought. Mine wasn’t toasted nor was it particularly fresh, admittedly a difficult task in high humidity. That aside, ciabatta is the wrong kind of bread for any kind of salad sandwich; it’s too hard, so when you bite it, the salad squeezes out the side. This sandwich would be great with a soft potato roll, or with the acknowledgement that reinventing the wheel is a waste of time: put it on a hot dog roll.
