Westhampton Beach Elementary School students were treated to a pottery class earlier this month, taught by visiting artist Clare Bennett, owner of Ceramics and Glass in the Barrens, of Manorville.

During the class, students not only learned about the geology of clay and what a kiln is, but they also got to make a celestial sun out of clay, which they molded and painted.

Bennett’s visit, which was made possible through the PTAs cultural arts and sciences collaboration program, aimed to provide students an opportunity to learn more about pottery and get a feel for the craft.
