WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — Reusable shopping bags are a boon to the environment and now, they'll help a local library bolster its programming for the community.

The Westhampton Free Library, a non-profit organization, announced this week that the facility had been selected by the Stop & Shop Community Bag program to benefit from the initiative, staffers said.

The library will receive a $1 donation for every reusable bag purchased at the Stop & Shop store, located at 194 West Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays; the reusable bags cost $2.50 each.

“We are thrilled to have been selected for this program, as it allows shoppers to give back to a local nonprofit while reducing single-use plastic bags,” said Library Director Danielle Waskiewicz.

The library intends to use the donations to further its programming and borrowing opportunities.
