Westhampton Beach Students Go Back to School

The 2015-2016 school year kicked off last Wednesday.

Westhampton Beach students began the school year with their new teachers, routines and programs as they kicked-off the 2015-16 school year on September 2.

“We are off to a fantastic start,” Westhampton Beach Elementary School Principal Lisa Slover said. “Students arrived eager to learn and our teachers have helped to ready our schools for what is sure to be a successful year ahead.”

This year brings about several exciting new initiatives in the school district.

For example, the elementary school is implementing two new reading programs; Fundations for first graders and Reading Wonders for second through fifth-grade students.

Both programs aim to engage young readers and build a strong reading foundation.

In addition, elementary students will soon have the opportunity to participate in a new Hurricane Rally program, which brings students together once a month to kick off character education lessons and celebrate student achievements.

At the high school, students now have the opportunity to improve on their writing skills in a new writing studio.

The studio affords students the opportunity to meet with English teachers to discuss their writing projects in a one-on-one setting.

At the middle school, students are eager to begin participating in a restored computer club, which will enable them strengthen a variety of STEM-based skills.
