Where to Buy the New iPad on Friday

Be the first in Westhampton-Hampton Bays to get your hands on the third-generation iPad.

The new iPad — which boasts a faster processor, a higher resolution display, 1080p HD camera and other improvements over its predecessors — goes on sale in retail stores Friday at 8 a.m., according to 9to5mac.com.

Patch could only find one place in Westhampton-Hampton Bays where Apple fans can purchase the new device — possibly. Some retailers would not say Thursday how many they would be carrying, while others would not confirm or deny if the new iPad would be shelved on Friday at all.

If any place would have the new iPad on the day of release, it's Radio Shack in Hampton Bays.  Bruce, an employee at the store said he will in at 8 a.m. ready to sell the new ipad.

"We have a very limited quantity and people have been calling all day about it," he said on Thursday afternoon.

And for those who already have an ipad, Bruce said Radio Shack does offer trade-ins.

The new i-pad is available elsewhere on the Southfork, including in Sag Harbor, an authorized Apple retailer. However, a staffer said GeekHampton cannot offer comment on the release of the new iPad until after 12:01 a.m. Friday. But if you trust the rumor mill about the release date, you can be sure the iPad will be on GeekHampton shelves at 8 a.m.

Phillip Burns, a manager-in-training at on County Road 39 in Southampton, said a shipment of iPads is expected at the warehouse on Friday, but he cannot say for certain whether the iPad will make it to the shelves the same day.

"They're being very secretive about it," he said, both Apple and P.C. Richard & Son.

The iPads will be stocked on Tuesday at the latest, Phillips said, but he suggested calling the store Friday to check if it is available. The store opens at 10 a.m. Friday.

The new iPad starts at $499, and, for the cost conscious, the iPad 2 has been marked down to $399. A new iPad with all the bells and whistles, including 4G and a 64GB hard drive, will run you $829.
