Cop Involved in Fatal Wrong-Way Crash Fired From Suffolk Police Department: Report

Robert Scheuerer has pleaded not guilty to all charges including aggravated vehicular homicide, manslaughter and vehicular manslaughter.

A Suffolk County Police officer facing charges in a September wrong-way crash on Sunrise Highway that took the life of a 37-year-old man, was officially fired from the department on Friday, according to a report in Newsday.

Robert Scheuerer, 24, who was recently indicted by a grand jury on numerous charges including aggravated vehicular homicide, manslaughter and vehicular manslaughter, was suspended without pay since the crash.

Prosecutors say Scheuerer had a blood alcohol content of .17, more than twice the legal limit, after the crash on the morning of Sept. 27. Scheuerer is also charged with aggravated DWI.

Scheuerer, who was off duty at the time, was seriously injured in the crash. He was initially only charged with reckless endangerment as authorities investigated.
