Highlights of the West Islip Memorial Day Parade

The West Islip American Legion Post #1738 led the community in remembering the nation's veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve freedom during a parade and ceremony Monday morning.

The day featured many clubs and organizations who came out in support of the veterans and those who are currently serving in the armed forces. Among the dignitaries present were American Legion Post #1738 Commander Ted Gladkowski, chaplain and incoming commander Joe Faccibene and past commander Joe Capoccia, Shaun Coppola, a recent boot camp graduate, Donald Papavero, a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force Reserves, West Islip Superintendent of Schools Dr. Beth Virginia Blau, West Islip Board of Education vice-president Annmarie LaRosa and trustees George Smith and Sharon Bieselin, Suffolk County Treasurer Angie Carpenter and Suffolk County Legislator Tom Barraga, who is a veteran of the Marine Corps.
