ICYMI: Children Hospitalized After Drunk Mother Crashes SUV On Long Island: Police

BRENTWOOD, NY - A Bay Shore woman crashed her SUV while driving drunk with her two children in the vehicle in Brentwood Sunday night, according to Suffolk Police.

According to police, Alba Alonso, 26, was driving a 2000 Toyota 4Runner east on Candlewood Road when she apparently lost control of the car and struck a curb, causing the car to overturn at about 6:05 p.m.

Alonso and the two children, ages 3 and 1, were transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for minor injuries, police said. It is unclear if Alonso is the mother of the children.

Officers arrested and charged Alonso with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger 15 years or younger under Leandra’s Law, DWI and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

Alonso was held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Monday.

The car was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
