GREAT SOUTH BAY, NY - A local doctor helped save a man who fell into the water in the Great South Bay on Friday afternoon.

Christoper Brennan was fishing with two friends near the Robert Moses Bridge close to the Coast Guard station between 11:50 a.m. and 12:54 p.m. when he saw a man walking towards the bow of the boat and then fall back into the water.

The man in the water began screaming "help" and the boat Brennan was on pulled their anchor up as soon as possible and drove over to the man.

He was bobbing up and down in the windy rough bay that day with the water temperature of the water in the mid-to-upper 60s.

Brennan, who was a lifeguard on Fire Island jumped in with a life jacket to prevent the man from drowning and the two spent about 20 to 30 minutes in the water until Brennan was able to help the man aboard an auxiliary boat while waiting for Fire Island Coast Guard to arrive.
