One Dead, One Critical After Wrong-Way Crash on Southern State

Accident occurred Tuesday night in Islip Terrace, police say.

An East Islip man is dead and a Bay Shore man is in critical condition following a head-on crash on the Southern State Parkway Tuesday night, State Police said.

According to police, Travis Sloboda, 24, was driving a 1993 Subaru east on the Southern State, east of Exit 43A, when his vehicle was struck by a 2004 Buick that was going the wrong way–west in the eastbound lanes–at about 10:12 p.m., police said.

Sloboda, of East Islip, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Buick, 63-year-old Edward Ogden, of Bay Shore, was transported to Southside Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition, police said.

The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing and police are asking anyone with any information on the crash to call 631-756-3300.
