OPEN HOUSE AT OUR LADY OF LOURDES SCHOOL, WEST ISLIP
Visitors are welcome to visit Our Lady of Lourdes School in West Islip during “Catholic Schools Week” Open Houses on Sunday, January 25th from 10:45 AM until 1 PM, and Monday through Friday, January 26-30, from 9-11 AM. Tours of the school facilities and registration materials for 2015-2016 will be available.
Programs at Our Lady of Lourdes School include: Nursery, Pre-K, full day Kindergarten and Grades 1-8, as well as “Someone Special & Me” for two-year-olds and a parent or grandparent. An extended care program is available before school beginning at 7 AM and after school until 6 PM.

Our Lady of Lourdes School strives to be a model of the Catholic Schools Week theme: “Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.” Throughout the year various service projects are undertaken to give the students opportunities to live their faith by helping others. Classroom prayer and grace before meals are important parts of each school day.
Our Lady of Lourdes School offers a values-based education that includes access to: daily prayer and religious instruction; extensive music, dance and theatrical arts programs; enrichment clubs; Spanish language instruction; sports programs; before and after school care; educational technology including SmartBoards, iPads, media center, laptops, wireless Internet; distance learning/virtual field trips and a student-run TV studio. Students on all grade levels have “Specials” which include: gym, art, music, computer, theatrical arts and Spanish language classes.

Educational technology in the classroom includes the use of SmartBoards, iPads and laptops. In addition, students participate twice a year in virtual field trips via our video conferencing equipment. Each morning a group of students produces an in-house morning TV news program called “Do Now, our Lady of Lourdes” which is broadcast during homeroom period.
The music curriculum includes the following instrumental lessons: Grades 1 & 2 – recorder and piano, Grades 3 & 4 violin, Grades 5-8 can choose the instrument they wish learn. Students can chose to participate in the school chorus, select choir, band, orchestra, and guitar ensemble in addition to their regular music class.
Students at Our Lady of Lourdes School are encouraged to work to their full potential. An accelerated math class is offered for qualified students in the upper grades which prepares students to take the Algebra I Regents exam in June of 8th Grade. Each trimester outstanding students are commended for their achievements by earning a place on the school’s Honor Roll. Upper school students may also apply for membership in the OLL Chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society. Students who need additional help with their studies benefit from an AIS (Academic Intervention Services) program.
Enrichment opportunities include teacher-run after school clubs such as “Let’s Cook,” yoga, SmartBoards, Brain Teasers, Art Club, Dolls Around the World, Girls’ Leadership, Creative Writing, Sign Language, and many more.
After school sports clinics are also offered. In addition, the upper school students can join interscholastic teams such as track, volleyball, basketball, bowling, baseball/softball that participate in CMSAA (Catholic Middle School Athletic Association).
Our Lady of Lourdes School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary Education. The curriculum follows New York State and Diocese of Rockville Centre standards, including the Common Core.
