Photo Gallery: St. John the Baptist's Annual Christmas Fair

Residents from all over Long Island got an early start to their Christmas shopping on Sunday.

For more than 15 years, local residents have been able to beat the Black Friday crowds by doing their holiday shopping early at St. John the Baptist's Annual Christmas Fair. This year was no exception, regardless of the brisk and windy weather that Sunday brought.

"I didn't expect it to be so cold today, but I can brave the cold a little while longer since this is for a good cause," said Teresa Laznardo of Bay Shore, who attended the fair last year as well.

"All of the money from the fair goes directly back to the students," said Susan White, one of the mothers who helped coordinate this year's event. "This year we have more than 130 vendors here."

Two of the vendors were sisters. Lorraine Bates, of Fort Salonga, was selling her handmade doll clothes while her sister, Jeanette Grzeszczar, of Holbrook, was selling hand painted Christmas ornaments.

"This is our first year at this fair," Grzeszczar said.  "We do it together as a team."
