On Tuesday night, a total of 200 local residents gathered at a 3-hour long community forum at South Middle School to discuss gang-violence in the community.

At the forum, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced that the county will be spending $500,000 for gang prevention programs at local elementary schools.

Police have not released additional details of the investigation at the forum but they believe there might possibly be a connection between the murders and the MS-13 street gang.

However, police did say that both officers and the community need to come together to help solve the problem.

"It's not me, it's not you, it's us. To come together and make sure this does not happen again," Officer Edward Groce, Suffolk County Police said according to ABC7.

Police, parents, and school officials spent the night working on a plan to decrease the amount of gang activity.

"We need to protect our children, we need to be vigilant. It shouldn't take such an egregious and heinous crime for us to come together," Mauricio Ramirez, a resident and parent told ABC7.
