Long Island Snow Total Estimates Inch Back Up For First Day of Spring Storm
A winter weather advisory has been issued for Nassau and western Suffolk on Sunday. Eastern Suffolk will be under a winter storm warning.

UPDATE 10 a.m. Sunday: Long Island Snow: The Latest on How Much and When
Alright, let's get this first day of spring (it arrives officially at 12:30 a.m. Sunday) snowstorm over with and move on to the near 60-degree temperatures that are in the forecast during the latter half of next week.
Here's the latest on what we will be dealing with Sunday and early Monday morning:
- The storm track has shifted closer to the East Coast in the most recent forecast models and snowfall total estimates for Long Island have climbed slightly since Saturday morning.
- A winter weather advisory will be in effect from 6 p.m. Sunday until 10 a.m. Monday for Nassau County and western Suffolk County. A total of 3-5 inches of snow is likely in those areas, with the lowest amounts in northern Nassau, the National Weather Service says.
- A winter storm warning will be in effect from 6 p.m. Sunday until 10 a.m. Monday for eastern Suffolk County (east of the William Floyd Parkway). A total of 6-8 inches of snow is expected.
- A mix of light rain and snow will develop early Sunday afternoon and then change to all snow late in the afternoon. Snow will continue through Sunday night before tapering off Monday morning.
- Visibilities will be reduced on roadways due to blowing snow. Wind gusts will reach 20-25 mph across the island.
It's been a tricky storm to forecast. Here's what Craig Allen, chief meteorologist for WCBS-AM/880, posted on his Facebook page Saturday night:
Ridiculous. I can think of no better word, 24 hours ahead of an event and there is still NO consistency or solid consensus of what the outcome will be from a developing coastal storm. From 'watch out' to 'forget it' to 'it's coming back west again'. This windshield-wiper affect of placing the Low left/right/left/right seems to have become the new norm. Thank goodness, we really haven't had too many of these situations this winter. (Yep, it's still winter as I type this)
