So it Begins

The Season Starts for the 2014 West Islip Varsity Football Team

Monday was the first day of 2-a-days or double sessions for the Varsity Lions. This years team lacks the marquis player that West Islip has had in the past but they do not lack in talent. The 2014 Lions feature a team with many talented players lead by Seniors Joe Rushton, Greg Ponce, John Devlin, Max McNicholas and Alex Barbera. The Juniors on the is team are equally talented and provide depth at a number of positions especially on the offensive and defensive line. I had the privilege to speak with Head Coach Steve Mileti over the summer and he is excited about this team because of the high quality of the character of this team, I agree this group is greater than the sum of their parts and have a never say die attitude. Coach Mileti and his staff have three weeks to prepare this team for its first game against the #1 Seeded and very talented Riverhead Blue Wave. The 7th Seeded Lions also have to face a team that has given this group fits over the years in the Colts of Half Hollow Hills West, the always tough Smithtown West and a very talented team from Smithtown East. The last game of the season is the big one against long time rival East Islip.
