State of Emergency Declared in Islip Town After Record Rainfall
Record-shattering rainfall caused dangerous flooding in Town of Islip.

A state of emergency has been declared by Town of Islip officials after rainfall flooded the area.
Supervisor Tom Croci signed the official declaration early Wednesday afternoon after an record-shattering 13.1 inches of rain fell within 12 hours.

“All Town personnel and equipment have been dispatched and will work round-the clock to ensure the health, safety and welfare of our residents,” Croci said.
Signing a state of emergency declaration will allow the Town to receive goods and services expedited to aid the recovery process.

Croci urged residents to stay off all roads and avoid driving as many areas are still flooded.
Long Island MacArthur Airport is open and operational but flights will be delayed until 1 p.m., said the Town. Visit the airport website here for flight information.
All day and evening youth and senior recreational programs were cancelled Wednesday.
Town Bay beaches are closed at the recommendation of the Suffolk County Department of Health.
