Long Island Native Named Miss Teen American Nation

Congratulations to Jessica DeStefano!

West Islip native Jessica DeStefano was recently crowned Miss Teen American Nation 2017 at the National pageant held in Connecticut last month.

The 16-year-old, who will be starting her senior year at West Islip High School this fall, has already competed in a total of five pageants, but this is her first time winning a national title.

Last year, she was chosen as Miss Community Queen Teen 2015 at the Miss Long Island Teen Pageant. In addition, she previously received the title of Miss Big Apple.

"It was the most incredible feeling," Jessica said. "It was about what I've done for the community and it was great to see how it made my family and friends proud."

For her volunteer work, she chose Kids Need More, a non- profit organization for children with cancer and hopes to raise funds and supplies needed for their Camp Adventure.

At West Islip High School Jessica, is a varsity cheerleader in addition to being a Jr. Advocate for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

She says her favorite part of competing in pageants is the people she meets.

"The friendships I've made are just so strong," she said.

However, the biggest challenge for her is having the correct walk.

"I'm a goofy person so when it comes to being serious, it's hard," she said.

Jessica's advice to girls who want to compete in pageants? Just go for it.

"It's such an amazing experience and you make so many friends," she said. "I would never give it up for anything."
