West Islip Resident Joins The Lustgarten Foundation and Nearly 8,000 Tri-State Area Residents in Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk

Marlo Paventi Will Walk to Find a Cure on October 12 at Jones Beach

West Islip resident Marlo Paventi will honor her mother and her best friend’s mother by joining nearly 8,000 tri-state area residents at The Lustgarten Foundation’s 14th annual Long Island Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk. The walk will be held on Sunday, October 12, at Jones Beach.

The Lustgarten Foundation is the nation’s largest private foundation dedicated to funding pancreatic cancer research. Due to Cablevision’s support of the Foundation, 100 percent of every dollar that Marlo and her fellow walkers raise will go directly to pancreatic cancer research.

In September 1997, Marlo was only 16 years old when she lost her mother Andrea to pancreatic cancer. As Marlo became older, she looked for a way to get involved in the fight against pancreatic cancer and in 2008 found out about the walk through a curePC public service announcement in the newspaper. curePC is a public awareness campaign created by The Lustgarten Foundation and Cablevision to draw attention to the urgent need to find a cure for this deadly disease. Marlo immediately registered for the walk and has been walking every year since. This year she not only will once again walk in memory of her mother, but also in support of her best friend’s mother who recently passed away from this deadly disease.

Marlo believes that participating in the walk will be a moving and inspirational way to honor both women. And, for Marlo, it is also fulfilling to know that 100 percent of all money she raises goes directly to pancreatic cancer research.

“Marlo will unite with thousands of extraordinary individuals who have joined the fight against this deadly disease in memory of loved ones they have lost and in support of pancreatic cancer survivors,” said Kerri Kaplan, executive director, The Lustgarten Foundation. “The Lustgarten Foundation is dedicated to raising funds for research because with more research, we will find a cure.”
