Update: 34-Year-Old Man ID'd as Victim in Metro-North Train Fatality

The incident occurred just before 9 p.m. Tuesday near the White Plains station.

Updated at 12:48 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015: Gacel L. Machado, 34, has been identified as the man who was struck and killed by a Metro-North train Tuesday in White Plains, according to The Journal News.

Machado emerged from the woods south of the city’s train station and apparently laid down on the tracks before he was hit.

The incident occurred along the southbound tracks just before 9 p.m., but the man’s identity has not yet been released pending family notification.

The Journal News reports the man stepped onto the tracks just south of the station, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Train service southbound along the Harlem Line was delayed for more than an hour Tuesday night following the incident, as Metro-North officials investigated. White Plains police also assisted.
