Fun Outdoor Chess Tournament Coming to White Plains Saturday
An end-of-the school year chess tournament introduces students to competitive chess.
Scholastic chess players will gather for one last tournament before summer break at a new outdoor venue in White Plains this Saturday, May 31.
The unrated tournament, produced by the National Scholastic Chess Foundation in partnership with the City of White Plains Parks & Recreation Department, will take place on the lawn at Library Plaza, located at 100 Martine Ave, White Plains NY 10601. If weather doesn't cooperate, organizers plan to move the event indoors.
The day will feature two separate competitions: an elementary division in the morning hours, followed by games for older students in the afternoon.

The National Scholastic Chess Foundation, a local nonprofit chess education organization, emphasizes that while the event is open to all scholastic chess players in the program, it's designed with newer players in mind—particularly those who may be experiencing competitive chess for the first time. The organizers are encouraging participants to invite friends who might be interested in trying tournament play.
