Missing Elderly Woman Located Using Project Lifesaver Tracking Bracelet

This was the 11th time a missing person has been found and returned home using the technology.

White Plains, NY — An elderly woman from Yonkers, who had wandered away from her home July 5, was found using Project Lifesaver technology.

Westchester County Police said the woman had gone into a heavily wooded area more than mile from her home, and she was found using a special tracking bracelet.

The device emits radio signals and specially trained and equipped county police officers are able to locate missing individuals who wear it.

“Project Lifesaver technology has helped county police officers save the lives of multiple people who might otherwise not have been located in time,” County Executive Robert P. Astorino said.

“I urge anyone with a family member suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia to find out more about this invaluable program,” he said in a prepared statement.

In this particular case, County Police Officer Timothy Hicks and his tracking canine Madison, a bloodhound, located the 79-year-old in an area not visible to anyone on the street.

Yonkers police had notified the county police that the woman was missing and was enrolled in the Project Lifesaver program.

She was found conscious and uninjured.

Yonkers Police Department Emergency Services Unit personnel removed the woman from the hilly, difficult terrain and took her to the hospital for evaluation.

This was the 11th time a missing Project Lifesaver client was located by officers from the Department of Public Safety and returned home safely since the program was implemented in August 2008.
