Person Of Interest Turned Over To FBI In White Plains Explosive Device Investigation
The feds are now heading up the investigation, but White Plains police say there are no explosives, and no danger to the public in the area.
WHITE PLAINS, NY — White Plains public safety officials say that while the investigation into an apparent explosive device continues, there is no longer any threat to the public.
"Part of the White Plains Department of Public Safety's core mission is to provide unbiased, comprehensive protection and services to the residents and visitors of the City of White Plains," the White Plains Police Department said in a segment released on Tuesday. "Yesterday, our city faced reported threats that required an immediate and decisive response. The men and women of the White Plains Police Department responded to these threats, and with the essential help of our local and federal partners, we successfully rendered the community safe.We want to assure the residents of White Plains that their safety remains our highest priority."
The department confirmed that there are no explosive materials currently present in the first-floor apartment on Odell Avenue that was the center of law enforcement activity on Monday. Police told the community the immediate neighborhood is safe, and there is no ongoing threat to the people living on Odell Avenue or surrounding streets.

Police officials said that due to the nature of the investigation, and the expertise and the resources it will require, the scene and the investigation were turned over to the FBI.
"We extend our sincere thanks to the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, FBI JTTF, ATF, and Westchester County Police Department for their swift and decisive assistance in helping us achieve our mission," WPPD said. "This coordinated response highlights the invaluable strength of our interagency partnerships."

A "subject of interest," who was taken into custody by the White Plains Police Department has been identified only as a White Plains resident, who is a white man in his 60s. This morning, he was turned over to the FBI, according to police.
