Westchester Asks State For Red-Light Camera OKs

The county said it would install the cameras in up to 50 intersections.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — Westchester County wants to install red-light cameras throughout the county at up to 50 intersections. On Monday, the Board of Legislators voted to ask the state to allow the installation of the cameras.

The eventual locations of the cameras were not disclosed, but Westchester said they would be on county-owned roads, the Journal News reported.

Legislation has to be approved by the state and signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Red-light cameras are in use in Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, White Plains and Yonkers.

When the red-light cameras in White Plains went live in July 2018, there was a warning period of 30 days with notices sent to the vehicle's registered owner. After the warning period, the tickets were $50 but did not result in any points being added to the owner's drivers license.
