Westchester Sends Albany 'Wish List' Of Legislative Priorities

WHITE PLAINS, NY — Westchester County has sent Albany its wish list of actions it would like the state Senate and Assembly to approve to help the county's residents and taxpayers.

County Executive George Latimer said the joint legislative package, which was sent by his office and the Board of Legislators, is the county level of government working with the state level of government to enact positive change.

"Government best serves the people we are elected to represent when we work in unison to advocate and make progress for our community as a whole," he said.

Board Chairwoman Catherine Borgia, D-Briarcliff Manor, Cortlandt, Croton-on-Hudson, Ossining and Peekskill, said the items in the list are things that everyone in county government thinks are important.

"From increasing the income threshold for child care subsidy programs to support for the right to counsel in eviction cases," she said, "these are items that will provide for the essential needs of the people of Westchester."

Among the package's top priorities are:

• Support the passage of a statewide right to counsel bill
• Support the expansion of downstate casino licenses
• Support the governor's executive budget increase for the income threshold for child care subsidy programs
• Urge Gov. Hochul to set aside emergency funding to address cuts to New York's essential victims' services
• Request funding for federal infrastructure projects, including Glen Island bridge replacement and improvements to Central Park Avenue
