White Plains Mayor Roach Presented with Historic Gavel

The ceremonial gavel was used by the city's first Mayor, Ffarington M. Thompson, at the city's first council meeting in 1916.

January 1, 2016, will mark the 100th Anniversary of White Plains being incorporated as a City, and in recognition of this important milestone, and to kick off the City’s Centennial, the White Plains Historical Society made a special presentation to Mayor Tom Roach Tuesday.

Rob Hoch, President of the White Plains Historical Society, presented Mayor Roach with a ceremonial gavel used by White Plains’s first Mayor, Ffarington M. Thompson, at the first Common Council Meeting on January 1, 1916.

The gavel will remain on loan to the City during the Centennial year.
