Rafael Nieves, 85, Killed By Hit-And-Run Box Truck In Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who killed an 85-year-old man Monday afternoon in Williamsburg.

Rafael Nieves, an 85-year-old resident of Grand Street, was crossing the street in front of his home when he was struck by a box truck traveling westbound on Grand Street, police told Patch. EMS responded to the scene around 1:06 p.m. and found Nieves on the pavement suffering from trauma to the body, police said. Nieves was transported to Bellevue hospital where he died, police told Patch.

The operator of the white or brown box truck did not remain at the scene of the collision, police told Patch. The NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the hit-and-run and have not made any arrests, police said.
