Baoburg Closed After Health Inspectors Find Roaches And Mice

Baoburg was closed on Dec. 19 when health inspectors found mice, roaches, and poor sanitation facilities in the Asian Fusion eatery.

GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — Baoburg was shut down after health inspectors reported roaches and mice in the Asian fusion eatery, city records show.

The critically acclaimed Baoburg at 614 Manhattan Ave. was forced to close after the Department of Health reported 12 major health code violations on Dec. 19.

Inspectors reported a long list of violations that included evidence of mice, roaches, inadequate hand-washing facilities, kitchen staff members wearing soiled clothes and no hair nets, dirty counters and improperly stored food.

Restaurants are graded on a violation point system that determines their letter grades — scores between zero and 13 constitute an A, scores between 14 and 27 constitute a B, and scores above 28 earn eateries a C and close monitoring from the city's health department.

During its December inspection, the Greenpoint restaurant earned 103 points — 91 points more than its last inspection score in August 2016.

Baoburg earned a write-up in the New York Times — for the “whimsy and logic” of its Asian, French and Spanish cuisine — when the eatery opened in its North Sixth Street location in 2014.

The restaurant took to Instagram to alert customers that they would be closed over the holidays, two days after the inspection.

Baoburg made headlines in July when a thief broke into the restaurant then stole $1,000 in coins from a nearby laundromat.

A Baoburg representative was not immediately available to comment.
