Explosions On Greenpoint Avenue Bridge Are Stunts, Police Say

A film crew will tape two "controlled pyrotechnic effects" on the John Jay Byrne bridge over the Newtown Creek on Tuesday, said police.

GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — The Greenpoint Avenue Bridge is not about to explode, according to police.

A film crew is slated to tape “controlled pyrotechnic effects” on the Newtown Creek bridge near Railroad Avenue from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, police said.

There will be two stunt explosions on the bridge, also known as the John Jay Byrne, and firefighters will be on call at the site, said police.

This is not the first time film crews have brought faux mayhem to Greenpoint this summer.

A film crew shot air cannons at candy glass windows and threw rubber debris from rooftops on Freeman Street — the block where "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" is often filmed — in June.
