Greenpoint Explosions Tuesday Were Just Candy, Police Say

Film crews shot air cannons at candy windows on Freeman Street, the reported home of the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Tuesday afternoon.

GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — If you heard massive explosions and saw chunks of debris falling from the sky on Tuesday, don’t worry, police say it’s only candy.

A film crew shot air cannons at candy glass windows and threw rubber debris from rooftops on Freeman Street between West and Franklin streets between noon and 6 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Police did not specify who would be exacting revenge on candy windows and rubber debris, but the Freeman shoot is happening on a block where “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” is often filmed.

The building at 74 Freeman St. serves as the exterior for the home of the show’s eponymous heroine, her cape-respecting roommate and her hipster-hating landlady, according to NYCGo.com.

City officials confirmed that both police and the FDNY were on site in case the candy window also proved to be unbreakable.
