First Ever Rye Week Celebrates Whiskey In Williamsburg

Head to the New York Distilling Company this weekend to celebrate all things rye.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — Everyone in favor, say rye.

Rye, the other brown liquor, will be celebrated in the first ever Rye Week festival which will be hosted by the New York Distilling Company in Williamsburg and begins Friday.

A weekend of festivities will open with a tasting of 18 rye blends to try and an open buffet courtesy of Union Square Cafe. The event, entitled Rye Whiskey, The American Spirit, begins at 6:30 p.m. and costs $25 to attend.

There will be another tasting party Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., when eight New York rye distillers (three of which — Kings County Distilling, New York Distilling and Van Brunt Stillhouse — are based in Brooklyn) will offer up samples. Once again, the event will feature a Union Square Cafe buffet table and cost $25.

The festivities conclude Sunday afternoon with a Wild Rye Rumpus Pig Roast with Hometown Barbecue providing two rye mash-fed pigs. The party begins at 2 p.m.
