Man Who Punched Kids In Williamsburg Arrested: Cops

The seemingly unprovoked attack happened inside the Bushwick Houses' lobby.

WILLIAMSBRUG, BROOKLYN — Police have arrested a homeless man who they say punched a 9-year-old and a 16-year-old in a seemingly unprovoked attack on Tuesday.

Charles Matthews, 26, was charged with three counts of assault, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of a weapon just after 8 p.m., police said.

Officers had been looking for Matthews after he was caught on surveillance video that morning punching a 16-year-old girl and 9-year-old boy in the back of the head inside the Bushwick Houses' lobby. Matthews had run away from the Flushing Avenue housing complex after the incident.
