McGolrick Park Farmers Market Begins 2018 Season

Year-round farmers market moves outdoors for summer months

On Sunday, May 6th, the McGolrick Park Farmers Market begins its 7th summer season. After spending the winter indoors just outside the park at the Park Church Co-op the market returns outdoors but in a new spot along Monitor Street due to park renovations. The farmers market can be found along the McGolrick Park side of Monitor Street every Sunday from 10am to 4pm through November 18th. The farmers market will continue its tradition of highlighting New York area growers and artisan food makers with the mission of bringing wholesome and delicious foods to neighborhood shoppers and supporting local small farms and food businesses.

The McGolrick Park Farmers Market is a grower-producer market, meaning that vendors must be farmers or make food with ingredients purchased from local farms. The few exceptions to this rule are olive oil, chocolate, tea and coffee vendors who are able to document their sourcing. This season, shoppers can look forward to a wide variety of fruits, vegetables and meats from area farms, including Certified Organic produce from Waldingfield Farm in Washington, CT and NYC roof-grown produce from Brooklyn Grange. Stone & Thistle Farm, located in East Meredith, NY, will bring pasture-raised meats and eggs as well as farm-made sausages, pot pies and more. New this year are D&J Farm with Long Island grown produce, including Asian specialty items, Kouklet with Brazilian style pastries made in Flushing, NY and McGrath Cheese Company with cheeses made in the Hudson Valley from New York farm milk. Green Tree Textiles will continue to accept donations of old clothes each week for recycling. The full schedule of shopper favorites and new vendors attending this year is available at www.downtoearthmarkets.com.
