Williamsburg Attempted Rape Suspect Arrested: Cops
The 30-year-old man was charged Wednesday afternoon for attempting to rape a woman on New Year's Day.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — Police have arrested the man who attempted to rape a woman in a Williamsburg apartment building early New Year's morning.
Manuel Almonte, 30, was charged with attempted rape, burglary, sex abuse, forcible touching, assault and harassment.

Almonte was wanted for trying to rape a 26-year-old woman on the first floor landing of an apartment building near South 2nd Street and Havemeyer Street around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
He punched the woman in the back of the head, got on top of her and tried to pull down her underwear, police said. The woman resisted and Almonte fled down South 2nd Street.

Police said they arrested Almonte just after 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
Records show that he lived just a block away from where the incident took place.
