2 Westchester Men Face Drug Charges in Catskill

One man is a resident of Somers; the other, Eastchester.

SOMERS, NY — Two Westchester men were arrested Sunday in the Town of Catskill on drug possession charges.

State Police said Thomas J. Dowd, 61, of Somers, was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and driving while ability impaired–drugs, a misdemeanor.

John J. Careccia, 49, of Eastchester was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.

Police said Dowd was driving a vehicle that was parked along State Route 23 in Catskill and was found to have a quantity of cocaine.

Careccia was his passenger and was in possession of alprazolam pills, for which he did not have a legal prescription.

Both men were arraigned in the Town of Catskill Court.

Dowd was sent to the Greene County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail or $5,000 bond. Careccia was released own his own recognizance.
