71-Year-Old Charged With Attempted Murder After Knife Attack
Both victims were taken to the hospital and are reported to be in stable condition, according to Yorktown officials.
YORKTOWN, NY — Yorktown police say a 71-year-old Yorktown resident has been charged with attempted murder and felony assault as a result of Monday's stabbing.
According to police, shortly before 6 p.m., officers were dispatched for a report of an assault in progress involving a knife. Officials said the first officer on scene encountered the knife-wielding man, who complied with his verbal commands and was quickly taken into custody without incident.
Other officers gave emergency medical treatment, applying direct pressure to a victim and were able to control the bleeding until EMS arrived. Investigators believe Wayne Watkins attacked two victims without warning as they were entering an apartment. Using a kitchen knife, he made multiple attempts to stab one victim, causing several knife wounds and knocked an older victim to the ground, then kicked that person in the chest, according to police.
