Bill Signed Into Law Will Protect Yorktown Lakes
The special designation will allow communities to apply for waterfront revitalization grants.

YORKTOWN, NY — Assemblyman Kevin Byrne, R-Mahopac, said Tuesday that legislation, introduced by Byrne and Sen. Peter Harckham, D-South Salem, to designate Junior Lake and Sparkle Lakes inland waterways was signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The governor signed the legislation Dec. 6.
Byrne said this was a win for the community, because both lakes are an important parts of the area's environment.
“With this passage, comes the ability for local government and organizations along the banks of Junior Lake and Sparkle Lake to apply for waterfront revitalization grants through the New York State Department of State and Environmental Protection Fund," he said. "I am anxious for this to take effect and to see what we can do to further preserve our waterways.”
