BOE Vacancy, Fall and Winter Registration, Disaster Recovery Center Opens and More
Here are five things you need to know today, Sept. 7.

1. Disaster Recovery Center Opens Today
County Executive Robert P. Astorino has announced that FEMA, responding to a request from the county, will open a disaster recover center at the Westchester County Center’s Little Theater beginning today. The center is for individuals, households and businesses to get help filing for Hurricane Irene disaster aid. Astorino will officially open the site at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7. 2. Fall and Winter Program Registration

Registration for the fall and winter programs, part of the Yorktown Park and Recreation Department, begins today at 8:30 a.m. Although the printing and delivery of the Parks & Recreation Department’s Fall 2011 and Winter 2012 Brochure has been delayed due to Hurricane Irene, you can still view the online version of the brochure by clicking here.
3. School Board Seeks Yorktown BOE Candidates

The Yorktown Central School District Board of Education is still seeking applications to fill a vacant seat on the Board of Education due to the . The school board is seeking letters from residents of the school district interested in serving on the board of education. The appointed individual will serve until the next school board election, May 15, 2012.
Those interested in serving on the board are asked to send a letter of interest, resume and any other information they would like the board to consider to Rebecca Narvaez, District Clerk, Yorktown Central School District, 2725 Crompond Road, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598 or via email to rnarvaez@yorktown.org. The deadline for submitting information is Friday, Sept. 9, by 4 p.m. The school board will interview candidates at its Sept. 19 meeting. For information, call 243-8199.
4. Break a Leg for Hairspray Auditions
Children 12 and over, teens and adults are welcome to audition for the Bedford Community Theatre's production of Hairspray. Performances November 11, 12, 13, 18, 19 & 20. for details on auditions, which began on Tuesday.
5. No Relief From the Rain
According to the National Weather Service, more rain is expected for today maily before 1 p.m. It will be cloudy, with a high near 66. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch is possible.
