Getting to Know Online Scams
Monday, August 10, in-person at 1 - 2 PM, virtually at 6 - 7 PM
Presented by Juan Carlos Villagomez.
Available to attend at the library or from home via zoom.
From the Silk Road of Mesopotamia to the World Wide Web. The internet is arguably the greatest communication network humanity has ever created. Yet along that network we also have anonymity. We can never be too sure who we are talking to or who is talking to us? We can never be too cautious on this web, where emails, phone calls, text messages, facebook posts, and more, can be fraudulent. It can be used to get private information from us.
Join us in this presentation about online scams, spam, and junk. Learn to spot fraudulent texts, and identify fake email accounts. Come to understand the intent behind ads and social media posts. Keep yourself safe online and have a backup plan in case you accidentally lose personal information.
Learn how to use the internet safely and to your advantage in weeding out the liars and thieves of the internet and explore safely and freely!
