DSW Opens for Business in Mohegan Lake

The "designer shoe warehouse" has moved into the Cortlandt Town Center. It had an official ribbon cutting on Thursday, but opened its doors on Wednesday.

The highly anticipated and awaited DSW has opened doors in Mohegan Lake.

"We're terribly excited," district manager Amy Findlay told Patch.

Although the "designer shoe warehouse" was expected to officially open doors on Thursday, everything was ready a day earlier and the soft opening was on Wednesday when customers from the area flocked the store to buy their favorite styles.

Findlay said people were pulling on their doors for months and as long as there are people to sell their merchandise to, the store was ready for business.

"I'm excited to have a nice selection of shoes," said Dawn Pellegrino of Yorktown who recently heard the store was opening and decided to check it out after work. "It's fun to have it so close to home. It's a great store."

She said while she likes the selection of merchandise, but she would have liked to see children's shoes – something that was missing.

"It absolutely adds to the retail area," Pellegrino said of DSW.

The familiar black and white awnings of the shoe store can be found next to  Barnes and Noble.

"I've known they're coming for months after seeing the infamous black and white awnings," said Liz Sloat, a Peekskill native who now lives in Garrison.

She said she wanted to shop for sandals and some dress shoes for a few weddings coming up, so she checked out the store while they still have everything in stock. Sloat said we would travel to the DSW store in the Palisades Mall every 5 to 6 months. She predicts she would make a trip to feed her shoe addiction a bit more often, now that the store is so close to home.

"Like every woman I like shoes," Corrine Alpers, of Stormville, said as she was trying on sandals.

DSW offers virtually every kind of footwear imaginable at affordable prices for men, women and children, and would be the only of its kind in the area. They sell everything from the most fashionable designer stilettos to a comfortable walking sneaker.

Aisles are filled with the latest trends, and in addition, the wedding shop collection features styles for the entire bridal party or any special occasion. They also sell purses and other accessories.

While most people were excited to see the shoe store open, Frank McLaughlin, of Putnam Valley, was a bit hesitant. She was at the Barnes and Noble next door when she was the "we're open" sign and decided to check it out. She said she thinks the prices are not better and the store competes with other discout stores.

But for Irene Ebersole, of Cortlandt, DSW was a welcome addition to the area.

"I'm glad it's here and I don't have to travel to Danbury," she said. "There is a good selection."

The store is located at 3091 East Main Street in Mohegan Lake. They're open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information call (914) 528-0506.
