Filling the Hole in Front of the Roma Building

Yorktown officials have issued a deadline.

The hole in the parking lot of the Roma Building has been there for two years, ever since the owner of the Citgo station there found the gas tanks had leaked.

It looks awful right there at the corner of Routes 118 and 202, in the heart of Yorktown Heights' business district.

At the beginning of 2016, town officials talked with representatives for the building, the gas station and the state Department of Environmental Conservation about getting the contaminated soil out and the hole filled in.

Now, frustrated officials have given the landlord a deadline: Memorial Day, according to Yorktown News.

The building is owned by 1331 Metro Holdings Corp.

Its president is Sam Zherka, the gadfly, publisher and strip-club owner who was sentenced in December to XXXXXXX.

Town Attorney Mike McDermott told Yorktown News editor Brian Marschhauser that the town can't enforce the deadline but said the town has been arbitrating between the parties.
