Grange Fair recap -- livestock

Images from the livestock area

The Grange Fair is a great place to see animals because fairgoers can get up close and even pet them. Various breeds of cows, horses, goats, pigs, and oxen were on display in the livestock area. This year there were more of the large animals than usual to make up for the absence of the poultry exhibits, which were banned by the State this year to curb the spread of the avian flu epidemic that has been wreaking havoc nationally. In addition to the showmanship competitions, there were many demonstrations throughout the weekend, including drill teams, horseback riding, and oxen driving and pulling. Scroll through the photos of some of my favorites above - the Belgian draft horses and the huge pair of oxen were spectacular, and Maya the goat could not get enough attention.
