Heights Bakery & Cafe Closes Storefront on Monday

If you're heading out for some baked goods or ordering a cake for your child's birthday, you will have to look elsewhere.

Much to the surprise of some royal customers of , located on Crompond Road in Yorktown, the store is closing its storefront. 

The bakery posted on their Facebook page that they will be closed as of Monday, July 11. Some customers expressed disbelief and wrote that they're sad to see them go.

Owners Jim and Nan Crocker, along with their lifelong friend Valerie Gaglione opened their authentic mom-and-pop bakeshop nearly four years ago, and come Monday they will be joining the thousands of people looking for jobs.

"People go to the supermarkets," Nan Crocker said of the struggles of being a small business owner. "All the 'mom-and-pop' shops suffer."

While the economy is partially to blame, the group's decision to close down and leave town is a combination of things, such as increasing rental costs, Crocker said.

Until recently, the bakery , complete with aprons, cake, assorted decorations, “Pin the Candle on the Cupcake” and balloon wishes. In addition, the partners ran a variety of special children’s events, including a dessert class and Girl Scout and Boy Scout badge-earning classes. They served breakfast and lunch and did catering, and held a baking and decorating course every Saturday.

"We will be available to place orders, book parties or cater events," she said. 

The store, located at 2013 Crompond Rd. in Yorktown Heights, will be open until Saturday, July 9. Owners will be at the store until Monday and are currently packing their boxes. Crocker said they will be selling some of their equipment.
