Homeless Man Arrested After Reports of Property Thefts from Cars

Police said the man also gave them a false name.

YORKTOWN, NY — A 17-year-old homeless man was arrested Saturday by Yorktown police for breaking into cars and stealing from them.

The man, who was not named by the police, was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and false personation, misdemeanors.

Police said that on July 29 they received calls from Mohegan Lake residents reporting property stolen from several vehicles.

An investigation revealed parked vehicles were entered during the overnight hours and cash and assorted other property were taken.

The police investigation also found that a suspect in the thefts was living at a Lakeshore Drive residence.

The 17-year-old was taken into custody after property from the car thefts was found in his possession, police said.

He was taken to police headquarters where he was also charged with false personation after giving the police a false name, officials said.

He was arraigned and sent to Westchester County Jail on $1,500 bail.

The man is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Court August 2.
