Jake’s Wayback Burgers to Open in Yorktown
Throwback eatery in Triangle Shopping Center to focus on fresh food, families, friendliness.

Jake’s Wayback Burgers, described as a throwback to the iconic roadside stands that once dotted the American landscape, is coming to Yorktown next month.
The newest outpost of the Delaware-based chain, which prides itself on big, juicy hand-made burgers and real milkshakes, plans to open in the Triangle Shopping Center in Yorktown Heights during the first or second week of September. It will be between the A&P supermarket and the newly opened self-serve frozen yogurt shop.
Jake’s offers family-oriented, fast, casual dining, said David, one of the partners in the venture. He and Alvin, the other partner, both of whom live in Westchester County, prefer to be known by just their first names.

“It’s an exciting concept,” David said as he described the open kitchen where diners can watch their food being prepared. “You’re a name, not a number. We want to get to know you. When your order is ready, we will call ‘Joe,’ not a number.”
David said a formal grand opening will be held a week or so after the actual opening, with specials, various activities to engage the community, balloons, face painting and such. Describing Jake’s as community minded, he said the eatery would schedule special days for such groups as veterans and supermarket employees.

Wayback began in 1991 as Jake’s Hamburgers with a single restaurant that still occupies its original location in Newark, DE, home of the University of Delaware. The simple, unassuming “burger joint” soon became several stores serving “big, juicy hand-made burgers and real milkshakes, crafted to order by a friendly staff,” according to its Web site. Delivering the freshest, most delicious food possible was Jake’s only philosophy.
As frozen, mass-produced burgers altered the fast-food landscape, Jake’s sought to remind people that they could still get a better burger, made just the way they like it. The name change to Jake’s Wayback Burgers followed in August 2010.
Burgers are only the beginning. House-made potato chips, all-beef hot dogs, marinated chicken sandwiches, turkey burgers, specialty sandwiches and fresh salads are available as well.
