Judge Rules Town OK Change Law Without New Public Hearing

The ruling determined the changes made after the hearing was close were unsubstantial.

YORKTOWN, NY — A state judge has ruled that the Town of Yorktown did not violate any laws when it made changes to legislation after it held a public hearing. Susan Siegel, a former councilwoman and supervisor, said she thought the board was wrong to close a public hearing on a new tree law, amend the legislation and vote on it without allowing new public comments.

The judge said the changes did not rise to the level of requiring a new public hearing, despite the fact that the minutes from the meeting said the law was changed prior to the close of the hearing, tapinto.net said. [Get Patch’s Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts here.]
