Lanny Gilbert Is A Man Of His Word

Lanny bring openness and trust to Yorktown!

Openness, is a key value upon which our current Town Supervisor, Lanny Gilbert, ran his campaign. Lanny believes that by giving access to the people, he empowers them. Openness is a value that combines transparency with access to information to educate and facilitate participation.

Back in February 2017, I had written a Letter to the Editor emphasizing how the Town Supervisor at the time had refused to turn on microphones during work sessions open to the public. People could not hear what was being said and it appeared as if there was an intent to keep critical information from attendees.

As a result, the people were unable to understand what was being proposed and/or negotiated.

In November 2017, Lanny Gilbert ran for Town Supervisor and, I’m certain, one of the reasons he succeeded was in his listening and acknowledgement of the people and their need for Openness.

True to his word, Supervisor Gilbert:

· has moved Courtesy of the Floor to a time when most residents can participate
· is now televising every Town Board Meeting that is open to the public (with kinds of excitement)

Supervisor Gilbert has opened the door to the inner workings of our town board. Now people have access to important processes and decisions made in board working session meetings. As a constituent I feel like I’m being heard and involved.

Since taking office Supervisor Gilbert has created a true relationship with the people of Yorktown, giving them voice and listening to their perspectives and needs.

When everyone knows what’s going on, has the information they need to make sound decisions and is allowed to participate, you then have fairness and fairness leads to trust.

By doing so he exceeds his campaign commitment by increasing citizen knowledge and participation, improving the effectiveness of government and establishing trust.
