Math Competition Winners from Yorktown High School
Two freshman at Yorktown High School win prestigious math awards from national association

Two Yorktown High School freshman Eric Lu and Kenny Zhang received Certificates of Distinction for their "superior performance on the American Mathematics Contest."
This qualifies them to compete in the American Invitational Mathematics Examination given in April. The competitions are organized by the Mathematical Association of America and the American Mathematics Association and involve students from around the country.
“These are difficult tests and having two students qualify is quite an accomplishment. We are very proud of them, especially given that they are both ninth graders,” said Yorktown High School Assistant Principal John Gollisz, who supervises the school’s math programs.

The first Mathematical Contest was given in 1950 and sponsored by the New York Metropolitan Section of the MAA. It has since evolved and each year more than 350,000 students from roughly 6,000 schools participate in the MAA-AMC contests. Of these 10,000 students qualify to participate in the AIME held in April.
