Mohegan Lake Closed For Swimming Due To Toxic Algae Bloom

The lake is scheduled to be treated at which time more samples will be taken.

MOHEGAN LAKE, NY — Mohegan Lake has harmful algal blooms that have necessitated the restricting swimming in the body of water, according to the state Department of Environmental Conservation. A sample taken July 4 from near the center of the lake found blue-green algae blooms that could produce toxins.

The lake is scheduled to be treated July 27 with copper sulfate, at which time more samples will be taken, tapinto.net said. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)
