Northeast Westchester Rotary Club Will Honor 9/11 Heroic Acts

The community is invited to a special dinner Sept. 10.

Northeast Westchester Rotary Club members proudly welcome Helen Reisler to speak about the worldwide response to the catastrophic events on September 11, 2001.

Helen Reisler, present Rotary International Representative to the United Nations and past Rotary District Governor, took office as the first female president of the New York Rotary club a couple of months before Sept. 11, 2001.

At the September 10th meeting, Helen will join the Northeast Westchester Rotary Club to recount her leadership, and that of her New York City Club, to what became an immediate and worldwide response to an unprecedented terror attack. Remarkably, she teamed together with her devastated club members, a number of whom volunteered at “the pit,” and held weekly meetings which became a “safe haven” and provided camaraderie for members, rescue workers and victim’s families. Additionally, they immediately aided victim’s families and rescue workers while collecting and coordinating worldwide contributions and offers of assistance through an “up to the minute” worldwide Rotary website. The actions of these people were depicted in a short documentary produced by Rotary International for worldwide distribution.
